Students of the Primary School Kisawa
Some time ago, I got the opportunity to photograph a group of young students of the Kisiwa Primary School. The most exiting part was that we also walked to the children’s homes and took photos there as well.
My intention was to walk to the homes of the individual children without too much attention from the people who live in that area. That was wishful thinking. We walked with fifteen children, two teachers, the head of the school, the pastor, the projectleader and myself, a white, European man.
Formal or informal setting?
As a European photographer, I preferred an informal setting. Also, I preferred photos with only the children and their parents or caretakers, brothers and sisters. The pastor and the head of the school appreciated photos with them included.
Of course I was willing to do both.
It was an extraordinary experience, since a foreign visitor doesn’t often walk around in that specific area.
